Judith Burton - Partner

Judith Burton - Partner

Judith was born and educated in Wolverhampton. She completed her law degree at Leeds University and went on to attain a post graduate qualification in EU Law Economics and Politics. This led to her working in Brussels for the EU.

Having successfully completed her professional exams, Judith joined East London firm Edward Fail Bradshaw & Waterson where she became the first female partner in the firm’s 101 year history. After initially heading up the Family area of the practice, Judith specialised in commercial and residential conveyancing, which continues to be her focus today.  She set up her first firm in Mayfair in 1989, before founding Judith Burton and Co in 1993, and then merging with Simon Woods and Co in 2000 to form Burtonwoods.

In addition to her core work in conveyancing, Judith has an excellent understanding of running a business and helping clients with various aspects of commercial law. She also has a great amount of knowledge of the charity sector and regularly acts for charities, provides pro bono support to charities and sits as a trustee in numerous not for profit organisations.

When not at the office Judith enjoys learning to play the piano, expanding her knowledge of wines, and exploring far flung corners of the world.

Simon Woods - Partner

Simon Woods - Partner

Born and educated in Sussex, Simon graduated from Warwick University. He qualified as a solicitor in 1985. In 1989 Simon established his own law firm Woods Lovatt which subsequently de-merged to become Simon Woods & Co. In 2000, Simon Woods & Co merged with Judith Burton & Co to form Burtonwoods. Simon specialises in property law, both residential and commercial. He also has expertise in business, probate and partnership law.

Simon has advised and been involved as a trustee with a number of charities. In early 2016, he qualified as a Notary Public.

Outside of work Simon has a keen interest in literature, politics, philosophy, economics and his allotment in North London. Simon is a member of the Groucho Club.

Martin Hayton - Legal Executive

Martin Hayton - Legal Executive

Martin was born and raised in the Lake District. He has worked for Simon Woods since 1990 and qualified as a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives in 2006. His main focus in the firm is residential property conveyancing, preparation of wills and enfranchisement work.

Martin is passionate about cycling and as well as his daily cycle commute into London, he regularly takes part in charity rides. He is also a keen walker and has trekked in the Himalayas and climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in East Africa.

Pam Robson - Probate Assistant

Pam Robson - Probate Assistant

Born and raised in South East London, Pam has worked for Judith Burton since 1995. Pam is a probate assistant working with Simon Woods and also has long experience of conveyancing work.

Her family keeps her busy outside of work with a range of activities, such as involvement with local Scouts and as a member of the local school’s Friends Association.

Mary Tinsley - Conveyancing Assistant

Mary Tinsley - Conveyancing Assistant

Born and raised in Essex, Mary graduated from St Mary’s College Strawberry Hill and worked in a number of office jobs before training as a legal secretary at a Lincolns Inn firm in 1997.  She joined Burtonwoods in 2002. Mary is an extremely experienced member of the firm’s conveyancing team.

Outside work Mary has many interests. She completed an M.A course in “Gender, Culture and Society” and a Lesbian and Gay History course at Birkbeck University. She was also a Weight Watchers leader for three years. Mary is a keen cyclist and goes on cycle rides or long walks on most weekends.

Stephanie McKeon - Solicitor

Stephanie McKeon - Solicitor

Stephanie qualified as a solicitor in 1994, following studies in York and a training contract with Judith Burton. After qualification, Stephanie worked in private practice as a civil litigator then in the charitable sector as an employment law solicitor for a number of years. She is now a consultant at Burtonwoods and advises on all aspects of employment law, with a particular expertise in maternity and parental rights.

Stephanie is a member of the Employment Lawyer’s Association. She is a trustee and founding member of the charity Advice in Your Language, as well as being involved in other charities.

Stephanie is a fluent French speaker and frequent visitor to France. Stephanie’s family keeps her busy when she is not at work.

Leon Lau - Office Manager

Leon Lau - Office Manager

Leon joined Burtonwoods in 2015 and uses his extensive management experience to keep the office running smoothly. Recently he organised Burtonwoods’ office move so that it was as painless as possible.  Leon speaks Mandarin and Cantonese in addition to English.  He enjoys traveling and loves to explore different cultures and food.
